Before confirming a conversion
The applicable exchange rate and fee should be displayed or communicated before a conversion is confirmed. Check:
- the currency and amount being exchanged;
- the currency and amount to be received;
- the rate being applied;
- the fee, where stated separately.
The comparison that matters
Compare the complete executed exchange rate, not a separately stated service fee in isolation.
A low headline fee applied to a wide rate can cost more than a higher fee applied to a tight one. The only figure that reflects the true cost is the amount actually received for the amount actually given.
This applies when comparing providers as well as when reviewing a single conversion.
Why exchange is a separate cost
The published starting prices cover account opening, maintenance, internal transfers and SEPA payments. Additional fees may apply to currency exchange, as they may to SWIFT, virtual IBANs, payment investigations, returned payments and additional services. Your applicable pricing is in your individual offer and pricing schedule.
